Google is working on a new feature for Android tablets

Ana sayfa / News

As you know, even though Android tablets are getting thinner and more advanced in terms of hardware and artificial intelligence capabilities, they still lack a very simple feature: A window layout that can do many things at the same time. Google is working on a very significant feature for this deficiency.

Google is working on a new feature for Android tablets. Dubbed ‘Desktop windows’, this innovation will allow users to freely resize apps and arrange them on the screen as they wish.

This feature, which is expected to provide great convenience especially for users who want to manage multiple tasks at the same time, is currently in the testing phase as a developer preview. With supporting applications, it will even be possible to open multiple instances of the same application (for example, opening two videos from the same application at the same time).

As you know, apps on Android tablets currently open in full screen by default. However, once the new feature is enabled, each app will appear in a window and users will be able to reposition these windows.

The new windows feature that Google is working on…

Users will be able to manually make the application full screen or easily close it at any time. At the bottom of the screen, there will be a task bar with running applications.

This feature is very similar to the ‘Stage Manager’ feature found on Apple’s iPads. It also aims to bring the window management experience we are familiar with from desktop operating systems to Android tablets. Although Samsung’s DeX experience, which has been offered on Galaxy devices for years, has tried a similar solution, Google plans to offer a full package with this new feature.
